Culligan Water Conditioning
Faster Response and Reduced Costs with TrimWeb
Things just naturally are big in Texas. Located not far from the Alamo, the Culligan Water Conditioning dealership in San Antonio supplies water treatment equipment and supplies to thousands of customers over an area of several thousand square-miles. In business for over 60 years, the dealership delivers an ever-growing selection of water softeners, filters, reverse osmosis systems, commercial systems and bottled water to both residential and commercial customers.
But today, when folks in the San Antonio area call for the Culligan man, they get even better, faster response than ever before, thanks in part to Trimble's TrimWeb. private fleet solution. Over the course of the past year, Bob Hunter, Service Manager of the dealership, has installed TrimWeb in most of the vans and trucks in his fleet of service and installation vehicles. His goal was to increase productivity of the fleet, accountability of the drivers, and improve customer service. He's done that, and more.
With the GPS-based system, Mr. Hunter says "There has been a dramatic difference in driver accountability. We're driving fewer miles, fuel usage is down, and even repair and maintenance costs are down. My trucks typically operate about 10 hours per day, and we also provide 24-hour on-call service for emergencies. The drivers take their trucks home every night and on weekends. There's much less casual usage during those times. I have the map displayed constantly on my monitor, so I always know just where everybody is."
"The system never sleeps, so I can get a report of wherever and whenever the vehicle was used. It even provides a record of speeding events, giving us a positive indication of which drivers tend to have unsafe driving habits. So in addition to helping to curb the casual usage and cut costs, it helps make our fleet safer."
The TrimWeb system is physically mounted out of the way on the vehicle and operates without driver involvement. The onboard computer component of TrimWeb, the TrimFleet. Mobile Data Unit (MDU), uses the Global Positioning System (GPS) to determine the location of the vehicle, any time, anywhere. The MDU communicates with the Trimble Mobile Solutions Data Center via a wireless data network. All reported location and status data is stored on a secure, high-availability server at the data center. The stored data is easily accessible 24/7 within your enterprise via the Internet. The map display on your PC shows where each vehicle is in real-time, or reports can be run to show exactly where it has been over a selected time period.
According to Mr. Hunter, another benefit of the TrimWeb system is his vastly improved capability for responding quickly to a customer emergency. Now, he can simply enter the customer's address into TrimWeb and get a real-time display that clearly shows which vehicle is closest. He says, "Not only is fast response important for good customer relations, but if, say, one of our rental units is leaking, there.s a potential liability issue for the company. So fixing it fast is important both to us and to the customer. TrimWeb helps us get there quicker."
Mr. Hunter sums it up: "Folks here in Texas like what Culligan does for their water; and I like what TrimWeb does for my business."
